Glass Film Treatment

Glass film treatments provide a number of benefits to your car or home. Window film increases energy efficiency by blocking heat and radiation from the sun. It also provides privacy, especially in windows where curtains are problematic, such as the bathroom, and can be decorative, with a variety of textures and patterns available.
Types
1. The base for all window film is polyester. A variety of chemicals and treatments are added to this with additional layers of polyester film to produce the final product. Most are also treated with a scratch-resistant final coat to improve the film's longevity. In dyed film, dye is added to the film to absorb heat and dissipate it outside via the thermal conduction of the glass to which it is adhered. For this reason, dyed films should not be used on double-glazed windows because the heat does not have direct access to the outdoors through the window. Deposited film and sputtered film are so named because of the method of adding metallic particles to the film to give it a reflective coating. These metalized and dyed films are used in conjunction to produce hybrid films that provide the benefits of both technologies.
Longevity
2. The best window films can last up to ten years or more if well cared for. These are usually the hybrid films that use high quality dye and a metallic coated layer. Metalized film can last up to five years, and simple dyed film can begin to deteriorate within a few months if made with low quality dye when exposed to intense sunlight.
Benefits
3. One of the major benefits provided by window film is energy efficiency. The government offered a tax credit in 2009 to people who had home window tinting installed. Film can reduce heat in your home or car up to 70 percent, according to Tintcenter.com. Window film also blocks most ultraviolet and some infrared radiation from the sun, protecting your skin, electronics, furniture, carpet or artwork. Glass film treatment is available with different levels of opacity to allow for privacy while still allowing light to pass through. Many window films are also available with decorative patterns to provide all the aforementioned benefits and match your decor. In addition, window film provides protection from broken glass, especially in automobiles, as the glass is held together by the film when it breaks.
